Biography

Major Geothermal (MG), formed in 2001, is a specialized ground source heat pump system design, forensics and controls firm, based in Wheat Ridge, Colorado (Denver area). Our key personnel have over 160 cumulative years of mechanical experience.

MG designs and consult on projects nationally and worldwide. Commercial projects includes government, institutional and private facilities, from small specialized applications of less than 1,000 ft², to multipurpose facility projects of over 500,000 ft². Our primary client base are mechanical engineers and architects who require experienced closed loop ground heat exchange design support.

Over the past few years Major Geothermal has been increasingly retained by numerous end-users for forensic evaluation of ground source heat pump systems including expert witness work for construction defect litigation. We have repeatedly proven our firm’s technical competence by identifying and confirming the issues of problematic commercial level GSHP system, providing multiple options to correct and resolve these installations.

Biography

Beth Morelli currently concentrates on much more than just sales at Air Connection, Santa Rosa, the business she runs with husband Mark. Since its beginnings as a commercial heating and air conditioning firm in 1996, Air Connection made a near-exclusive commitment to geothermal in 2001, when both principals decided this technology was our (and their) future.

She helps guide Air Connection as a geo installation and service company, specializing in loop field engineering, installation, and repair. Air Connection is a long-time affiliate of IGHSPA, GeoExchange, Redwood Empire ASHRAE, and North Coast Builders Exchange, and serves customers throughout California, including many projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and Napa Valley. Beth continues as CaliforniaGeo’s chief financial advisor and Treasurer, and was a founding member of the organization.

Bruce is the Founding Majority Partner (with Ric Rowlatt and Pete Frigo) of Sierra Eco Systems (SES). It follows that the company’s strategy is a focus on business, construction, and technology—reflecting the combined skills of the partnership. He is headquartered in Genoa, Nevada and SES serves a growing customer territory westward into northern California and southward into southern California.

Bruce has experience hatching a number of start-ups as an entrepreneur and his concentration on SES expansion drives a growing satisfied customer list. Like many geo supporters, he realizes that continued growth of geothermal systems is enhanced by exponential word-of-mouth. Bruce is a fireball of ideas and enthusiasm, and he was welcomed as a CaliforniaGeo board member in 2015.

Biography

Terry Shewchuk serves as the Operations Manager for Pitcher Drilling, where he has been employed since 2001. Pitcher originated in 1933 and invented the Pitcher Barrel, which is used in the geotechnical industry throughout the world. Pitcher Drilling transitioned into the geotech industry in the 60’s. Pitcher Drilling was purchased by John Gregg in 2001. With John’s help the drill fleet has been re-tooled allowing Pitcher to provide clients multiple sampling or testing methods including geothermal loop installations. From the company’s headquarters in East Palo Alto, Terry manages the logistics and scheduling for a drilling fleet of six truck mount and two track mount drills with a full complement of support trucks. He is responsible for the day to day operations of 20 office and field staff.

The Pitcher Company is owned by Gregg Drilling, and its geotechnical and geothermal work covers all of northern California, from Eureka to Alturas, and southward to points below the Bay Area. Recently, Pitcher Drilling installed a 110-loop borehole field for the NASA-Ames research facility in Mountain View, installed geotechnical instrumentation and cored deep concrete pilings for the San Francisco TransBay Terminal project and performed rock exploration on Calaveras Dam part of Hetch Hetchy Water Infrastructure improvement project. Currently, Pitcher Drilling is working on State Route 36 highway exploration, so that stabilization engineering may proceed in order to better anchor this “often migrating” road bed.

Terry is Canadian born and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba.

Biography

At Bosch Thermotechnology Corporation, Mark is responsible for business development activities which include zero energy building developments, cross selling opportunities and utility channel development. He has held other positions at TT which include managing an applications engineering team and product manager for solar thermal.

Over the past 20 years Mark has been involved in the introduction of emerging technologies in the energy, water and telecommunications industries. Many of the solutions he helped develop and launch have embraced more cost-effective decentralized approach to building out computing and clean technology infrastructure solutions. He has worked for start-ups as well as multi-nationals that included companies like Atlantic Richfield, Siemens, Unisys, Software.com, Openwave, Fronius and now Bosch. Mark is a graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara with a degree in Environmental Studies and Business Economics.
