The Plastics Pipe Institute, Inc. (PPI) is the major North American trade association representing all segments of the plastic pipe industry through research, technical expertise, education, and advocacy. The Building and Construction Division, which focuses on pressure piping systems used within buildings and on building premises, represents manufacturers that produce plastic piping systems for outdoor heat exchangers (ground loops), such as HDPE, PEX, PE-RT and PP. PPI supports industry efforts to update geothermal standards and codes (e.g. ANSI/CSA/IGSHPA C448, IAPMO’s UMC and USHGC, ICC’s IMC and IRC); works closely with IGSHPA, GEO and other related organizations; publishes documents and educational presentations about plastic piping systems for geothermal applications; and serves as a technical resource for information on plastic piping technologies.
