Bill Martin, President, CaliforniaGeo Based in: Quincy, California Affiliation: MartinEnergetics
Bill Martin self-studied residential energy conservation and built his first heat pump-equipped home in the mid-70s. By 1980, he had promoted energy conservation for two years in Plumas, Lassen, and Sierra counties on a grant from the California Energy Commission and four regional electric utilities. He was certified by the California Energy Commission in 1981 to train energy auditors and began selling and installing solar thermal systems. He developed related course offerings at Feather River College and trained contractors in Title-24 content, statewide. Efficiency in residential energy design is his passion; ground source heat pumps are his favorite technology, and his current house was built based on both. He is an IGSHPA-Certified Ground Source Heat Pump Installer. Bill joined the CaliforniaGeo Board in 2013.
Susan Nichol, Board Chair, CaliforniaGeo Based in: Campbell, California Affiliation: Green Equipment Options Inc
Susan Nichol serves as the CEO of the full-service HVAC company Cold Craft, Inc. in San Jose, CA. Her firm earned the first Diamond Certified® status in Santa Clara County. It operates with NATE® certified staff, is affiliated with SMACNA, and emphasizes continuing improvement in all business activities. It is a certified geothermal heat pump installing company. Susan joined with two other partners to form Green Equipment Options, Inc. This new venture supplies the HVAC industry with supplies and equipment for GHP installations, and provides guidance for all businesses who want to understand more before choosing a greener heating and cooling path. As the shift toward a carbonless California intensifies, Green Equipment Options (appropriately G.E.O. for short) will be there to help expand the green workforce and incorporate geothermal heating and cooling into the services of the most progressive HVAC companies in the region. Susan joined the CaliforniaGeo Board in 2014.
Joe Parsons, Treasurer, CaliforniaGeo Based in: Lakeland, Florida Affiliation: Earthlinked Technologies
Joe has served as chief operating officer of EarthLinked Technologies since 1996 and is responsible for product development, training programs, standards compliance and authorized dealer relationships. He has 32 years of experience in the heating and cooling industry, and is a member of the Geothermal Exchange Organization’s (GEO) board of directors. He is also a member of ASHRAE and a Corresponding Member of TC 6.8 (Geothermal Heat Pump and Energy Recovery Applications). Joe is also the Project Committee Chairman for Standard 194. An active member of the California Geothermal Heat Pump Association, Joe is a contributor to the Geothermal Heat Exchange Well Standards Update. He also is involved with the development of the DX Manufacturers Industry Organization and is the current President of G.E.O. (The Geothermal Exchange Organization). Joe joined the CaliforniaGeo Board in 2014.
Kevin Oxley, Board Secretary, CaliforniaGeo Based in: Gresham, Oregon Affiliation: WaterFurnace International
Kevin Oxley serves as Territory Manager for California/Oregon/Idaho and Nevada territories of WaterFurnace International. He currently works with over 50 WaterFurnace dealers throughout his territory. Prior to working for WaterFurnace Kevin was a Sales and Design Manager with a few Geothermal contractors in the Portland, Oregon area, installing his first Geothermal Heat Pump in 2004. Kevin has always been in the energy business, since graduating in 1982 were he began in the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Industry and worked throughout the Northwest for 15 years, before joining a Heating and Cooling distributor in 1998 located in Portland, Oregon. Kevin joined the CaliforniaGeo Board in 2015.
Todd Bradford, Director, CaliforniaGeo Based in: San Ramon, California Affiliation: ENGEO
Todd joined ENGEO after graduation from the University of California, Berkeley with a Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering. His experience in designing and managing includes multi-use urban infill projects, high-rise buildings, excavation shoring, shoreline re-development, and brownfield redevelopment projects. His work on various projects includes geotechnical explorations, liquefaction analysis, consolidation settlement analysis and surcharging, site-specific seismic response, seismic shoreline stability and retrofit, temporary shoring, and static and seismic slope stability analysis. Todd is actively involved with ENGEO’s work on Ground Heat Exchange projects, providing a green alternative to traditional heating and cooling technology. He consults with building owners, residential and commercial developers, campus planners in higher education and healthcare, and other potential users interested in integrating geothermal for their projects. Todd joined the CaliforniaGeo Board in 2017.
Terry Proffer, Director, CaliforniaGeo Based in: Wheat Ridge, Colorado Affiliation: Major Geothermal
Major Geothermal (MG), formed in 2001, is a specialized ground source heat pump system design, forensics and controls firm, based in Wheat Ridge, Colorado (Denver area). Our key personnel have over 160 cumulative years of mechanical experience. Terry diagnoses and specifies repairs to commercial geo systems and often serves as a third party design review and construction oversight professional. He was the first person we’ve heard describe his job as “geo janitorial,” where his expertise fixes problems in geo systems and controls for the benefit of customers. MG designs and consults on projects nationally and worldwide. Commercial projects includes government, institutional and private facilities, from small specialized applications of less than 1,000 ft², to multipurpose facility projects of over 500,000 ft². Terry joined the CaliforniaGeo Board in 2016.
Terry Shewchuk, Director, CaliforniaGeo Based in: Palo Alto, California Affiliation: Pitcher Drilling
Terry Shewchuk serves as the Operations Manager for Pitcher Drilling, where he has been employed since 2001. Pitcher originated in 1933 and invented the Pitcher Barrel, which is used in the geotechnical industry throughout the world. Pitcher Drilling transitioned into the geotech industry in the 60’s. Pitcher Drilling was purchased by John Gregg in 2001. With John’s help the drill fleet has been re-tooled allowing Pitcher to provide clients multiple sampling or testing methods including geothermal loop installations. From the company’s headquarters in East Palo Alto, Terry manages the logistics and scheduling for a drilling fleet of six truck mount and two track mount drills with a full complement of support trucks. He is responsible for the day to day operations of 20 office and field staff. Terry joined the CaliforniaGeo Board in 2013.
Mark Stimson, Director, CaliforniaGeo Based in: Santa Barbara, California Affiliation: Bosch Thermotechnology
At Bosch Thermotechnology Corporation, Mark is responsible for business development activities which include zero energy building developments, cross selling opportunities and utility channel development. He has held other positions at BT which include managing an applications engineering team and product manager for solar thermal. Over the past 20 years Mark has been involved in the introduction of emerging technologies in the energy, water and telecommunications industries. Many of the solutions he helped develop and launch have embraced more cost-effective decentralized approach to building our computing and clean technology infrastructure solutions. Mark is a graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara with a degree in Environmental Studies and Business Economics, and joined the CaliforniaGeo Board in 2012.
Tim Wright, Director, CaliforniaGeo Based in: Ringgold, Georgia Affiliation: Enertech Global LLC
Tim Wright is the Residential Sales Manager for Enertech serving both Canada and the United States marketplace. Prior to Tim joining Enertech, he held the National Sales Manager position for a recycled insulation products company. Tim has been involved in the renewable and energy conservation industry since 1988. Over the past 28 years, Tim has worked closely with Architects, Engineers, Builders, Inspectors, HVAC Manufacturers, Distributors and Dealers. Having touched all facets of the industry gives Tim a well-rounded understanding of what is important for each sector of our industry. Tim and his family reside in Ringgold, GA. Tim joined the CaliforniaGeo Board in 2014.
